F4 – Ready to Rock!

If you prefer the un-blazed trail, if you consider rock crawling a potential Olympic sport, if breakover angle means something to you, if oversized wheels and dirt chunking tires are important to you, then American Wheel and Tire’s F4 build of a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is a ride you have to have a close look at. True, in its latest iteration, the Wrangler Unlimited has more civilized driving dynamics in urban settings but you’d never know it looking at the F4. You’ll still scare small kids and old ladies when you cruise the boulevard.

But cruising the boulevard is not why you want a monster like the F4. Yes, you have a 9 to 5 that you have to drive to Monday through Friday, but on the weekends it’s time to take a ride on the wild side. The F4 is definitely up for it.

Gives Trail Ready a Whole New Meaning

This vinyl wrapped body has been modified by the wizards at American Wheel and Tire to be ready for whatever the terrain can throw at it. Take fenders for example. When you install a 4” Rough Country lift and put on 22×12 V-Rock Recoil wheels (in satin black) wrapped in 37″x13.50″-22 RBP Repulsor M/T tires, you play havoc with the relationship between stock fender and tire. If you only travel in a straight line everything is fine. But if you turn the wheel or the axel moves up over a rock, fender and rubber will meet and things will get nasty. So, adios stock fenders.

We turned to FabFours, a high-end parts source who uses cutting edge technology for metal cutting and forming to provide superior fenders and other parts on the F4, Specifically the ride features FabFours Fab Fours replacement fenders, fender flares, front fender gill box, and front inner fenders. Then we tapped them for a Vicowl with four light insert, Grumper winch mount (for our 10,000 lb winch) front bumper and grille, crash bar cover, and rear bumper with off-the-door-spare tire carrier. 

The exterior is just wicked looking but there is more to this beast. Jeep provides a V6 powerplant and a 6-speed manual transmission plus the 4WD Command-Trac system. Underneath is Fox remote reservoir shocks and Pro Comp steering stabilizer and a stock skid plate to protect the whole thing.

Inside is impressive as well. Might as well kick dirt in style. Custom leather seats with quilted inserts give you a level of unexpected comfort. Fit and finish are excellent. Need tunes while you rip up the trail? The F4 includes Advent ADVUNI300 6.2″ iGo Primo navigation (like there are going to be roads where you’re going),  AV receiver with Bluetooth, AppRadio mode and SiriusXM ready. A really nice touch is the rear-view camera.
